I have read an article titled “Teenage Girls In This Photo Series Show The Scary Effects Of Editing Apps” by Julia Brucculieri and it talks about how in todays society editing pictures for social media accounts is much more common and easy than it has been in the past. “Apps like Instagram and Facetune have made it so easy for us to change the way we look-through filters, retouching or a combination of both- that its becoming harder to determine what’s real and what’s not”. This statement from the article proves how in todays society you can be looking at someone on a social media app and they could look completely different in person.
I can relate to this article very much, not for the reason that I edit my face or body to be “social media ready” but noticing how obvious it is when seeing people I know look different in person than online. It is stated in the article how photo editing apps are increasingly easy to use and that you can edit selfies or other pictures in less than an hour.
Editing pictures to alter your own or someone else’s appearance is something people should be aware about since it is becoming more of a topic in todays society. People edit their pictures based on what the beauty trend is in the moment. For example in the article it states how the girls all seemed to do the same thing – enlarge their eyes and plump their lips. Based on what people see on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook has an impact on the way people, or in this case teenage girls edit their pictures.
Following the topic of editing pictures, I have become more comfortable editing and putting different types of filters on pictures I have taken. I am not the greatest at navigating new apps and sometimes it can take me a decent amount of time to figure out how to really use them, but the newest app I have downloaded has made editing my pictures so easy and it takes me no time to come out with an amazing edit.

The first picture has no edit on it and was taken with my iPhone camera, the second picture is with an edit that I created using the Snapseed app. This took me no time at all and was very enjoyable to play around with to create an awesome image. In the second picture I had made it more bright and made it so the rocks, water, cloud, and trees stood out more. This app is super easy to use if you’re a beginner to editing and can help you create some of the most beautiful pictures! Just look at the difference in unedited photo compared to the edited its amazing!
